The Pope and KFC

Jun 5, 2012   //   by admin   //   From the Web, Internet Marketing  //  No Comments

A Marketing Consultant employed by KFC gained an audience with the Pope, and offered him a million dollars if he would change ‘The Lord’s Prayer’ from “give us this day our daily bread” to “give us this day our daily chicken.” The Pope refused the offer.

Two weeks later, the consultant offered the Pope 10 million dollars to change it from “give us this day our daily bread” to “give us this day our daily chicken” and again the Pope refused the generous offer.

Another week later, the consultant offered the Pope 20 million dollars, and finally the Pope accepted.

The following day, the Pope briefed his staff.

“I have some good news and some bad news. The good news is, that we have just received a check for 20 million dollars. The bad news is, we lost the Wonder Bread account!”

Marketing: Retail Joke

May 31, 2012   //   by admin   //   From the Web, Internet Marketing  //  1 Comment

A retailer was dismayed when a competitor selling the same type of product opened next-door to him, displaying a large sign proclaiming “Best Deals“.

Not long after he was horrified to find yet another competitor move in next-door, on the other side if his store. It’s large sign was even more disturbing- “Lowest Prices“.

After his initial panic, and concern that he would be driven out of business, he looked for a way to turn the situation to his marketing advantage. Finally, an idea came to him. Next day, he proudly unveiled a new and huge sign over his front door. It read,
“Main Entrance”!

SOPA and PIPA Stopped!

Jan 20, 2012   //   by admin   //   BLOG, From the Web  //  No Comments

A big hurrah to you!!!!! We’ve won for now — SOPA and PIPA were dropped by Congress today — the votes we’ve been scrambling to mobilize against have been cancelled.

The largest online protest in history has fundamentally changed the game.  You were heard.

On January 18th, 13 million of us took the time to tell Congress to protect free speech rights on the internet. Hundreds of millions, maybe a billion, people all around the world saw what we did on Wednesday.  See the amazing numbers here and tell everyone what you did.

This was unprecedented. Your activism may have changed the way people fight for the public interest and basic rights forever.

The MPAA (the lobby for big movie studios which created these terrible bills) was shocked and seemingly humbled.  “‘This was a whole new different game all of a sudden,’ MPAA Chairman and former Senator Chris Dodd told the New York Times. ‘[PIPA and SOPA were] considered by many to be a slam dunk.’”

“’This is altogether a new effect,’ Mr. Dodd said, comparing the online movement to the Arab Spring. He could not remember seeing ‘an effort that was moving with this degree of support change this dramatically’ in the last four decades, he added.”

Please Help Stop SOPA/PIPA
omOriginals Marketing! rarely engages in politics.  The act if passed would greatly reshape the internet as we know it.
WordPress officially released its stance on SOPA/PIPA – the Stop Online Piracy Act and the Protect IP Act – which will soon come up for vote in the US legislature.  We ask that you learn more and Help Stop SOPA/PIPA.

Be sure to watch the short video.

PROTECT IP / SOPA Breaks The Internet from Fight for the Future on Vimeo.

We agree with those that have come out publicly against these bills, and we’d like to encourage you to join in the fight to stop them from becoming law.

For our non-American friends, the effects of these laws would most likely be felt around the world, making this a global issue of great importance to our web community.

You would think that laws that have such cute and friendly names as Stop Piracy would be good for everyone, but most of us that make a living working with content on the web have major concerns.

Another one bytes the dust.

“We are gathered here today to morn the passing of my beloved website. You represented me well but alas you now seem out dated and irrelevant.  So with regret, today I am pulling the plug.  It seems like just yesterday, that I watch with pride as you were launched and took your first steps into cyberspace.”
